Positioning your Hands
There is much debate over the best place to position your fingers and which set of numbers to use on the keyboard. I will discuss fully the way I restock since it has worked out quite successfully for me. Be forewarned however, it's probably not the most comfortable way. :P
I use the top number row on my keyboard as opposed to the number pad at the bottom right. I prefer using the numbers at the top because it is close to some other keys I also use. This is also the method I learned to restock on, and it's hard to switch. In addition, I restock on a laptop so it's not like I have a choice now.
My hands are placed as follows:
- Right hand is on the mouse and only controls the mouse. I use my index finger for both the left mouse button and the scroller, since keeping my third finger on the scroller just feels awkward for me. This is a matter of personal preference and doesn't really matter overall.
- Left pinky finger is on the Ctrl key. This key I use with Tab to scroll through my tabs.
- Left ring finger is on the Shift key. I press Ctrl + Shift + Tab to go backwards through the tabs.
- Left middle finger is on the Tab key. This is a bit of a stretch and is really awkward. Just keep it there going through the tabs from shop to shop, otherwise your hand is gonna complain. xD
- Left thumb is on the spacebar. I only use the spacebar to confirm the pop-up boxes which I will explain later. I do not use it to scroll down since it seems to a bit fast for my liking, and I prefer using the mouse.
- Left index finger just rests wherever it can for now.
That is how I place my hands while restocking, and I find it makes it easy to jump to the numbers when I need to haggle.
There are of course many other ways you can do this, so if what I have presented does not work out for you, there are numerous guides out there which describe what those writers prefer.
