Through my time restocking, I have heard some theories from various people about how the restocking system works. Below I will add the most credible and debated ones, with my own take as well.

• Clearing Shops: Some restockers believe that you can induce a shop to restock more often if you help buy it out. Any main Neopets shop has a maximum item capacity of 5 rows of items (5x5 = 25). Obviously if there is a full shop, no more items can restock. The theory basically suggests that if there is more room in the shop, restocks will occur more often (because there is room) and stock more different items (stocking more items increases the likelihood that a good item will restock).

  In my experience, such a tactic is applied most often to shops that stock a high proportion of junk items (Merifoods, Defense Magic, etc.). I have tried it myself, and haven't been able to prove to myself if the strategy works. Some people swear by it while others think it's a waste of time and NP. This also leaves you pretty bitter if you do the clearing and it seems to work, but someone else ends up profiting off your clearing job. x)
